It has been a bit quiet on the Horseplay front recently... but for good reason. Exciting new developments are on the way .... so keep popping in....
At last Horseplay is going public. It was a year or so ago Patrick introduced me to his 'baby'. Something he had been devoting a lot of time and energy to, clearly a pet project and a passion. Let me say this up front.... Patrick can justifiably be proud of what he has achieved within such a short period of time. The beauty of this particular 'child' is it will continue to grow and mature as experience shows him how to tweak and define the system, adapt filters and statistics, adjust weightings and ratings with input from racing fundi's and customers. Watch this space.... there's going to be a Horseplay family, raising this prodigy to a space where all who participate will benefit.
Technology offers us tools to make calculations far more complex than we could ever dream of and the internet is a source of more information than our distracted brains would know what to do with. Hence we should use what is available to us to harness both, processing power and reams of data, to produce an end product.... winners.
At first I was very skeptical. I have been a racing fanatic since Sea Cottage, Jollify, King Willow and many more champions graced our race tracks. I was at the track as a snotkop 17 year old when Elevation won his third consecutive Holiday Inns (now the Summer Cup) beating the gallant mare Queen of All drawn 17 of 17 into second place, described as 'ugly' but what a race mare she was.I love studying form, I love finding that 33/1 shot that gets me pumping the air shouting.."I gottya".. I love working out who is managing a coup...the 'human element'...simple number crunching was not going to do it for me. What about the myriad of factors which influence a race result? What about form stables ? Barrier draws, heavy going, change of equipment, fitness .... again.. the human element ? These all play a part in deciding the result of a race. I was a skeptic... but I am now a convert. I still believe that NO computer program will ever be able to predict with certainty the winner of a race. But how about narrowing down the field ? How about bringing to the fore form which is just outside what is visible in the racing publications... but still very relevant. Helpful? You bet ! If I have less than half the field to concentrate on... I am 50% closer to finding the winner... in 50% of the time. I am excited about this child.
Exciting times... come jump on the bandwagon!
